Description: A nonprofit café and workforce-development program serving specialty coffee, espresso drinks, tea, muffins, cookies, brownies, scones, and other baked goods while providing vocational training for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The bright, modern Uptown space features a white café counter, teal accents, indoor tables, and a few outdoor seats, with a welcoming community-focused atmosphere. The café is certified kosher.
Comments: Cute, small cafe with a great mission. Many of their employees are part of a job training program for adults with disabilities, so your spend here goes toward supporting that.
The space itself is small, but there’s some bar-style seating by the window with good access to outlets. Those are also great seats if you’re into people watching, just row after row of people walking down North Tryon on their way to work or whatever else they’ve got going on that day. Not a bad place in general to get some work done on your laptop either. Maybe not somewhere I’d drive from way far away just to work remotely, but if you’re already in the area, it works. I’ve seen a few Uptown banking-looking types camped out on their laptops taking a meeting or 2 here.
I feel shame every time I type this on this site, but I don’t drink coffee, so I don’t know what to tell you about how it tastes here. I’m sure it’s good. They have tea though, which is my thing, and it’s solid. Parking is validated for 2 hours.
