Description: A nonprofit coffee shop tucked inside the Sparkhouse West community hub in west Charlotte's Ashley Park neighborhood, brewing locally roasted Enderly Coffee alongside espresso drinks and pastries. The 8,000 square foot space, renovated in the basement of Shiloh Institutional Baptist Church, doubles as the home base for Do Greater Charlotte's youth entrepreneurship programs and rents coworking desks and conference rooms to small business owners.
Expect a creative, community-driven atmosphere where teen baristas, remote workers, and local entrepreneurs share the room. Every cup directly funds programming for middle and high school students learning entrepreneurship, digital media, and graphic design. Originally opened in 2022 as Creative Lab Coffee, the shop relaunched under the Sparkhouse Coffee brand in February 2026.
Comments: This place has some history. I visited back in 2023 when it was still called Creative Lab Coffee. I was leading a tech summer mentorship for high school students, and William McNeely invited our group out to learn about the intersection of art, music, and technology. The students did a hands-on activity where they got to DJ, use real DJ hardware and software, and then see how deeply technology is woven into the creative process. Hands down the best field trip we did that whole summer.
And there's another bit of history here. The viral 2023 TikTok of a kid DJ'ing and going "yes, of course". That came out of Backspinz Music Academy, an organization that partners with Do Greater Charlotte and meets in this exact space. Same building, same mission, just under the Sparkhouse name now.
So, when you're sipping coffee here, you're sitting in the room that helped to produce that viral moment, and you're funding the nonprofit that gave that kid the platform to discover what he could do. That's what makes this spot special. It's a lot more than just a coffee shop, they're out here changing lives! You can learn more about the Do Greater Foundation here.
