Description: A community-oriented specialty coffee shop inside The Commons at Christ Episcopal Church, with inviting indoor gathering areas, free Wi-Fi, and an outdoor courtyard suited to working, reading, meeting, or lingering. The counter serves espresso drinks, drip coffee, canned nitro cold brew, smoothies, tea, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and vegan and gluten-free options. The surrounding building functions as a larger gathering space rather than a conventional standalone café and remains available beyond the coffee counter’s daytime schedule on most days. Free on-site parking and several building entrances make it easy to access, while church services, meetings, and community programming may cause the atmosphere to vary throughout the week.

Comments: So like, I don’t know if I have the vocabulary to articulate how nice this place is. Let me use an example. If you’ve been to Vavela Cafe, it stands out because it’s so polished, fancy looking, almost royal looking. This place is equally as impressive, but in a completely different way. It feels like a rich person’s expansive living room with a courtyard. So not in the fancy, glossy-floor sort of way, but in the extremely comfortable sofas, couches, armchairs, plants sitting on little lamp stands, and pristine coffee tables sort of way.

And it’s huge. This has to be one of the largest coffee shops in the entire city. It’s inside Christ Episcopal Church, but the coffee shop has its own entrance and its own corner, so you won’t be roped into a service, and nobody is standing around waiting to evangelize you. It’s open to the public. Anyone can come hang out. The interior has a ton of tables and a ton of couches. I mean, I’ve never seen this many couches in a coffee shop. This is the coziest of cozy coffee shops in Charlotte. As the creator of this website, I can tell you I’ve been to just about every coffee shop in the city. None of them have this many couches. And all the chairs have padded backs! None of those typical metal uncomfortable coffee shop chairs.

I can’t think of a better place to read a book. Or study. Or work remotely because alongside all the couches are plenty of tables, with little table stands displaying the Wi-Fi password, making it clear they want remote workers around. Access to outlets is good if you sit at a table along the wall, and some of the couches with lamp stands have those outlet tower things nearby, so you can stay charged up. And then there’s the courtyard. It’s very pretty. Lots of flowers, plants, green tables and chairs, and brick walls surrounding you. You could do a photo shoot out there.

I haven’t even talked about the coffee because, to be honest, I don’t drink coffee. But even if it were terrible, which I doubt it is, this place would still be worth visiting. They have tea, which I enjoyed, pastries, some light hot food options, matcha lattes, and all that stuff. But the space is what impresses me so much. And although the coffee shop closes early, the space itself remains open for some time afterward. The church calls it The Commons, and it’s meant to be a community space in general for people to hang out. Bravo to whoever designed this place.
