Description: A French-inspired bakery and cafe in Eastover with an all-day menu centered on coffee, tea, pastries, breakfast dishes, sandwiches, salads, and tartines. The space brings a polished South of France feel to a quieter neighborhood setting, with rustic decor, warm cafe seating, blue-and-white accents, and a bakery case built around croissants, cookies, and seasonal pastries. It works well for breakfast, lunch, coffee meetings, light laptop time, casual catchups, and a pastry stop while moving through the Eastover area. The menu has enough savory options for a real meal, but the baked goods and coffee make it just as useful for a short daytime visit.
Comments: This is their third location in Charlotte, in nearly as many months. To say Maman's expansion into Charlotte has been aggressive would be an understatement. Of all their locations, so far, this is the largest. It's two stories, with a ton of seating. Downstairs there's an outdoor patio and a smattering of tables, then upstairs there's a lot more. And both upstairs and downstairs, you have pretty good access to outlets if you sit along a wall.
That said, they do have signs on every table that say "Maman is a laptop free environment" which matches the FAQ section on their website. But Maman is a chain from NYC. They're not from here. Maybe that's a policy in NYC, but I've been to all the Charlotte locations so far, and there's remote workers and students hanging out on laptops across them all. At this location specifically, I asked for the Wi-Fi password, and it was graciously given. I was one of 5 people upstairs on a laptop so idk if they just don't enforce it, or maybe only during peak hours, idk.
Anyways, aesthetically it's the same as all their other locations. Rustic French countryside vibes. Very nice. Classier than the Amelie's eclectic French vibe, this is more like a rich aristocrat that wants you to think their homey and down to earth kind of vibe. It's in a converted house though which makes this location unique. Parking is free on the surrounding streets. The lot right behind the store is super small, so you'll likely have to drive down the street to park, but it's free.
